Job Purpose To manage stock levels and procurement cycles for specific food categories (e.g., dairy, dry goods, frozen proteins). The buyer ensures product availability to meet sales demand while minimizing dead stock, managing food waste, and optimizing margins. Key Responsibilities Generate purchase orders based on system-driven demand forecasting and minimum stock levels. Monitor supplier performance regarding lead times, fill rates, pricing accuracy, and quality. Manage stock expiry profiles closely to minimize write-offs of perishable goods (FEFO/FIFO rules). Negotiate short-term promotional pricing and volume deals with local food manufacturers and distributors. Coordinate with the receiving department to resolve supplier variances or short-deliveries.
- Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, or Commerce.
- 2–3 years of buying or inventory control experience within a wholesale food service, retail grocery, or FMCG environment.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and inventory forecasting modules within an ERP system.
- Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
